Harris Development Limited is an innovative partnership of local people, local and national organisations working together for the benefit of Harris. It was formed in 1994 as a response to the problems of a fragile economy, decline in population and remoteness from existing decision-making processes. Membership is open to any individual or business with an interest in seeing improvements to life on Harris.( see membership section for further details )

Since its inception HDL has been involved in a wide variety of projects and initiatives including development of visitor centres, outdoor activity centres and community halls; harbour redevelopments; improving local footpath networks; representing local businesses at travel and trade fairs; delivering training for local businesses and providing advice to those wishing to set up business in Harris.
